Today, the English Patents Court welcomes James Mellor QC to its ranks. He will join Mr Justice Meade and Mr Justice Birss (the latter soon to take a position in the Court of Appeal) in hearing category 4 and 5 cases (the most technically complex). They are supported by an additional six other judges assigned to the Patents Court. With Lord Justices Floyd, Lewison and Arnold in the Court of Appeal and Lord Kitchin in the Supreme Court, the English intellectual property judicial system remains in good hands.
James Mellor QC, aged 59, will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Mellor. He was Called to the Bar (M) in 1986 and took Silk in 2006.
