It’s that time of year you have all been looking forward to… or so I’m led to believe. Next week we will be kicking off our third IP360 seminar series! Although this is the third IP360 webinar series, it is my first webinar since joining Lewis Silkin at the start of the year. I’ll be kicking off the webinars on 9 September with a presentation on designs (details of which are below) and later on I’ll be providing an update on trade marks and standard essential patents.
In case this is your first time hearing about the IP360 webinar series, it is a number of weekly events which address some of the intellectual property issues our clients are dealing with, be it in relation to registration, management, commercialisation, defence or enforcement.
What you can expect:
Following Brexit, Registered Community Designs and Unregistered Community Designs ceased to be valid in the UK. Design right owners have been left with a smörgåsbord of rights, including the UK Registered Design, the Re-Registered Design, the Continuing Unregistered Design, the Supplementary Unregistered Design and the UK unregistered design right.
These all arise in different ways, cover different aspects of the design and last for different durations (from less than three years to twenty five). To confuse matters further, with regard to unregistered rights, a designer may have to elect between UK and EU rights, depending on when and where these design are first disclosed. In this webinar we will be explaining these different rights and the choices designers need to make. The session will be useful for designers and anyone managing or enforcing a design portfolio.
